Phoenix Eyeing City Land for Transit-Oriented Mixed-Use Project

The City of Phoenix is rezoning nearly 1.5 acres at the corner of 35^th Avenue and McDowell Road to encourage residential and commercial redevelopment near public transit.

AZBEX reports Phoenix owns the property and, once rezoning is secured, plans are to issue a request for proposals for redevelopment of the site. The city said once a successful candidate has been selected and the preliminary site plan and elevations have been created, the plans will be presented for review and comment.

The city is planning for a medium to high-intensity mixed-use development characterized by a broad mix of buildings that integrate retail, offices, live-work and residential units adjacent to the Light Rail Corridor. The zoning change will allow for two-to four-story buildings.
