PHX Surf Park pares back plans

Phoenix-Area Surf Park Pares Back Plans

PHX Surf has submitted updated plans to the City of Maricopa’s Development Services Department. Among changes featured are a size reduction from 70 acres to 30 acres in addition to scaling back to one surf pool from two. Other changes in the updated plan eliminate a lazy river and water slides as well as an outdoor music venue. The 30-acre surf park will still include a 10-acre wave pool, a resort, pickleball courts, a spa, retail and restaurants.

Maricopa officials say that the developer of the park decided to downsize the scale of its project because of economic and supply chain constraints as well as water issues, but said the new plans do not decrease its quality or community benefit.

The Phoenix area is popping with surf/water park proposals. They include the VAI Resort and Mattel Adventure Park in Glendale and the Cannon Beach surf park in Mesa.
