Pet-Friendly Features Becoming Key Multifamily Amenities
In the past, a “pet-friendly apartment” referred to a rental unit in which dogs and cats were allowed. The tenant would pay a security deposit, and the dog or cat would be permitted.
These days, the multifamily sector is recognizing that pets are more than animals to renters – they are family. And, as such, those renters are demanding amenities for their pets, as well as for themselves. To meet that demand, developers are creating pet spas and even indoor pet parks, while the properties themselves might host doggie pool parties, Yappy Hours and pet CPR classes.
“We really enjoy designing these mini dog spas for our clients. Because the interaction between owners and their pets is so joyful, we have a fun time coming up with playful design ideas that really showcase bold colors and patterns,” said Brittany Biddle, Director of Design & Production, MP Studio. Houston-based MP Studio has been working with Greystar and other developers on incorporating pet-friendly elements into multifamily properties.
