Passenger Counts Climb at Sky Harbor
Total passenger counts at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport continued to rise for the fifth straight month. The airport reported on Wednesday 1,578,524 total passengers passed through Sky Harbor during September.
That number compares favorably to the 1.4 million passengers in August and is significantly up from the 282,000 passengers in April. The numbers started climbing to 584,000 in May, though they are still down 54.3% from the 3.5 million passengers passing through Sky Harbor in September 2019.
American Airlines and Southwest Air carried the bulk of the passengers through Sky Harbor gates in September, with a combined count of nearly 1.3 million passengers. Airline leaders say tourism travel is helping to fuel the rebound in passenger counts, though business travel is still largely limited due to COVID-19 restrictions. The number of flights landing at Sky Harbor in September dropped 37.8% to 9,023 from August 2019.
