Partnership Acquires Land, Begins Development of Lake Okhissa Site in MS

A public-private consortium has acquired 150 acres in Homochitto National Forest near Lake Okhissa in rural, sparsely populated Meadville, MS. The partnership plants to construct a 200-room lodge, 1,000-person conference center and related amenities that will also bring needed jobs and economic benefit to the area.

The Scenic Rivers Development Alliance intends to develop the property into a destination for outdoor enthusiasts plus businesses and organizations that emphasize tourism, economic development and education.

The land purchase was finalized earlier this year following Congress’ passage of the farm bill. Jones Lang LaSalle and HVS Asset Management are providing real estate, hotel/resort and asset management services. Supporters also are partnering with Prism Hotels to develop the site’s hotel, resort and conference center. Construction is expected to start in late 2022 with opening slated for 2025.

A critical element tied to the success of the project is the installation of a robust telecommunications infrastructure.

About Lisa McDuffie

Lisa McDuffie arrives at ConnectCRE via REALTOR® world, where she served for nearly two decades as communications director for one of the nation’s largest REALTOR® organizations. She supported two membership-elected presidents who were commercial real estate practitioners, and managed the communications initiatives of the organization’s commercial special interest group. When not following the latest commercial real estate news, Lisa is zeroed in on her charismatic off-the-track thoroughbred as she makes the transition from an utterly failed racehorse to a lovely show hunter.
