Jim McCue and Steve Coon, with Coon Restoration and Sealants of Ohio, teamed with Stephen Goodman of Fort Worth to sign a sales agreement to acquire the Nueces County Courthouse at 1100 N. Mesquite St. in Corpus Christi, TX. The partners will pay $1,000 for the courthouse, and will also have to pay $1.5 million in back taxes owed by the previous private owners.
The courthouse, which was built in 1914, has been vacant since 1977. The soon-to-be owners will begin inspection and development plans immediately, with Coon telling the Corpus Christi Caller-Times that construction could start in early 2018, and be completed about two years later.
“It’s probably one of the most solid buildings in the city, so we’ve got to figure out exactly what we’re going to do. It looks like after talking with Steve (Goodman), we’re leaning toward a hotel route,” Coon added.
