Padel, Pickleball Courts Planned Near Fairchild Park
Sure pickelball is big. If you have visited your local city park of late, you’ve probably noticed that most of the tennis courts have been converted to pickleball courts. But not so fast. Another racquet game, popularized in Mexico and South America, is sweeping the country as well. Called padel, the sport requires courts with walls as balls can be played off them similar to squash, meaning designated facilities are required.
San Diego-based The King of Padel is expanding to San Antonio, bringing indoor padel and pickleball courts to Fairchild Park on the East Side. The new facility at 314 Nolan St. is in the former home of Crusing Kitchen’s food truck storage. The facility is valued at over $7 million and spans almost 100,000 square feet.
The facility will have six padel courts and eight pickleball courts. The courts can be reserved for one or more hours at a time.
