Pack Expo Scraps McCormick Place Dates for 2020

Pack Expo, a packaging technology trade show that draws tens of thousands of attendees to Chicago every other year has canceled its in-person gathering due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Chicago Tribune reported. It’s the latest in a series of event cancellations at McCormick Place since March.

Scheduled for Nov. 8 – 11, the event was expected to draw 71,000 people and account for more than 91,000 hotel room nights, a spokeswoman for the Metropolitan Pier & Exposition Authority told the Tribune. The Virginia-based Association for Packaging and Processing Technologies will hold the event virtually.

The cancellation brings the total number of McCormick Place trade show cancellations to 145. Those events were expected to generate more than $1.9 billion, including spending at hotels, restaurants, transportation options and entertainment, the spokeswoman said.

She said 60% of the events canceled due to the pandemic have been rescheduled for future dates.
