Organic Supermarket Takes Space in Bed-Stuy

A new organic supermarket is coming to the Bedford-Stuyvesant property that used to house a North Brooklyn Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program center, Crain’s New York Business reported.

The Aloe supermarket signed a 10-year lease for 12,000 square feet of ground-floor retail at 500 Dekalb Ave., according to Crain’s, which cited sources familiar with the deal. The deal is for $54 per square foot.

Joseph Heimann purchased the Dekalb Avenue property through an LLC in 2018 for about $23.3 million, according to property records. The building used to house the SNAP office and the Dekalb Job Center, which were both operated by the city’s Human Resources Administration. Heimann has since converted the six-story property into a modern office building.

Dov Bleich of Tri State Commercial Realty represented Aloe in the deal, while Avi Akiva of Tri State represented the landlord.
