Orange County Hits Right Note for Yamaha
Yamaha Corp. of America is staying in California and plans to invest $46 million in building a new facility at either its current Buena Park, CA location or a new site in Irvine. The musical instrument and audiovisual equipment maker explored relocation options in Texas or Tennessee, but ultimately a $3-million tax incentive helped convince the company to remain.
The subsidiary of Yamaha Corp., Japan notified the state it would lay off or relocate its Orange County workforce of 350 high-wage, skilled positions. Officials with the state’s Go-Biz tax credit program lobbied to retain the company in California.
Yamaha has been based in Orange County since 1971 at a facility that is nearly 50 years old.
