Open Jar Will Open Rehearsal Space on Broadway

Advisors Commercial Real Estate has arranged a 15-year, 51,436-square-foot-lease at 1601 Broadway for Open Jar Studios. The studios represent a new live theater venture from the Open Jar Institute, a theater training institute founded in 2003 by director and choreographer Jeff Whiting.

Principal Jeffrey Rosenblatt and director James Cleary (pictured, with Whiting in the center) of Advisors negotiated the transaction on behalf of the tenant. Comprising the entire 11th and 12th floors of 1601 Broadway, the new lease will create the largest studio facility in New York City for rehearsals, auditions, and support offices for large-scale Broadway productions.

The space will include two 4,000 square-foot studios, with 24-foot high ceilings and additional studios of various sizes. Along with rehearsal space, the studios will serve as the headquarters for the Open Jar Institute. Construction on the new space is slated to begin in mid-July, with plans to open in January 2019.
