Ontario Airport Considers Uses for 147 Acres

Ontario International Airport has 147 acres of land to the east that commissioners are determining what to do with. Options under consideration include selling the property, or developing it themselves to lease out.

Ontario International Airport Authority leaders say the capital influx would be helpful right now, however the long-term vision of the facility may be better served by holding the land. The airport is seeking ways to attract more flights and new airlines, which is primarily achieved by keeping landing fees and operational costs as low as possible for airlines.

The land located east of Haven Avenue being considered for sale or development has been determined to be of “non-aeronautical use.” Thus, it is attracting the attention of developers. One possible use is as warehouse space for shipping companies that would be enticed to use Ontario to deliver goods to the warehouses.
