Onni Group’s Brodeur Details Redevelopment Plans for Huge Former Chicago Greyhound Service Station

At Connect Media’s well attended Connect Midwest conference in Chicago Tuesday, VP development for Illinois and Washington Brian Brodeur of Canadian developer Onni Group spoke to ConnectCRE about the company’s plans for the Chicago area.

The big news out of Onni when it comes to Chicago and development is the company’s recent purchase for $38 million of the 7-acre former Chicago Tribune printing facility, as reported by Crain’s Chicago Business.

Brodeur refused to comment on the purchase or Onni’s plans. But it cannot be a coincidence that the former printing plant is directly adjacent to the former Greyhound bus service facility site that Onni also owns. And that both these properties are smack in the middle of the recently announced Bally’s Casino for Chicago.

When it comes to the former Greyhound facility, Brodeur was more talkative. “All the planning and approvals are complete and we expect to break ground later this year on the redevelopment of the Greyhound property,” Brodeur told ConnectCRE at the conference.

The redevelopment by Vancouver-based Onni would bring 2,650 new residential units, 300 hotel rooms, commercial office and retail space.
