Online Retailer Spreetail Leases 21K SF for New Office

Spreetail, an online retailer that sells home and garden products, has leased 21,000 square feet in downtown Austin. The Omaha-based company plans to hire 100 people the first year and expects additional growth in the future, according to CEO Brett Thome.

“Austin seemed like a phenomenal city to branch into,” Thome said. “What drew us is the talent pipeline that’s here, and the other companies that are here. We’re looking forward to tapping into that and being part of it.”

Thome said Spreetail considered Austin and Boston for its expansion. “We knew there was e-commerce talent in both cities, but we loved the vibe of Austin, and felt it was a better fit,” he added.

Spreetail will move into its new space in the James H. Robertson building at 416 Congress Ave. in late 2018. The company, which launched in 2006, is self-funded and currently has about 400 employees, as well as five fulfillment centers.
