Online Holiday Shopping Delaying Shipping

The demand for online holiday shopping continues to increase, which is putting pressure on shipping firms to deliver products to consumers in a timely manner. Several online retailers do not expect to have shipments on time for Christmas.

UPS is reportedly delivering 420 million packages, while FedEx has 228 million in the works, said research firm ShipMatrix. These numbers represent an eight percent increase over last year. Meanwhile, the U.S. Postal service will handle most of the volume, with 545 million deliveries. Adobe predicts that sales from online shopping in November and December will hit $83 billion, representing an 11-percent increase from last year.

Even if all the deliveries do not arrive to their destination on time, these top shippers still do hit their delivery dates more than 90 percent of the time.
