One Million Riders for NYC Ferry
Wall Streeters will be able to ride the New York City Ferry to their new apartments in Long Island City on the Astoria Line, now scheduled to open August 29, 2017. Three other lines of the growing ferry system opened earlier this summer.
“It’s been less than three months and NYC Ferry has already served one million riders. As we prepare to launch the Astoria route, we continue to add capacity to this brand new and wildly popular system – one that connects transit-starved neighborhoods and commuters to jobs and the wider city,” said Mayor Bill de Blasio.
The ferry system served its one millionth rider on the morning of July 26, 2017, a milestone it was not expected to reach until late August.
“We knew NYC Ferry would be popular, but a million riders in less than three months is beyond our wildest expectations,” said New York City Economic Development Corporation President and CEO James Patchett. “More and more New Yorkers are taking to the water to get to work or enjoy our parks and beaches – all for just $2.75.
