On the Market: San Antonio Express-News Building

Hearst Corp., owner and operator of the San Antonio Express-News newspaper, announced it is exploring a possible sale of its building at 301 Avenue E., in the city’s CBD. The 172,000-square-foot building has served as the daily newspaper’s headquarters for 90 years.

Ed Cross and Brent Smith with Cushman & Wakefield are marketing the property, which is situated on 2.1 acres. No listed price is connected to the building. The reason for the sale is too much space. The newspaper’s staff has declined over the past several years, due to layoffs, and the building’s top four floors are vacant.

Cross told the Rivard Report that he hopes to close on the property’s sale by the end of 2019, though hasn’t received interest from buyers, as yet.
