Omni Finds Room for 175 Units in Crowded Bronx
New York continues to find new places to build affordable housing. This time, Omni New York has opened 175 apartments affordable to low- and moderate-income households, including 35 apartments for formerly homeless vets, at 655 Morris Avenue, in the Melrose neighborhood of the Bronx.
The $63.8 million development is built on an underutilized bit of land next door to Maria Lopez Plaza, an affordable housing community that Omni bought and renovated in 2008. The new building has a long list of sustainable design features, including a cogeneration plant.
“We at Omni are excited to open our first new construction building in New York City,” said Eugene Schneur, managing director and co-founder of Omni.
