Old Town 500-Unit Development Design Heads to City Council

Chicago developer Fern Hill is taking the next steps on its Old Town Canvas project, a 500-unit apartment building in Old Town, after slimming the tower’s design and adding eight additional stories.

Updated details, including the height increase, were part of Fern Hill’s revised plans at 1610 N LaSalle Drive to be submitted to the City Council, reported Crain’s. Located on the intersection with W North Avenue, the proposal has been in the works for nearly three years and was recently updated at a community meeting. The structure is being developed by Fern Hill along with local design firm GREC Architects.

Plans call for demolishing a single-story Walgreens and incorporating a new location for the drugstore chain into the high-rise, which would be connected to a low-profile parking garage with ground-floor retail.
