Old Republic Names New CEO

Chicago-based Old Republic International Corporation (ORI), whose 100-plus business lines include title insurance, has named president and COO Craig Smiddy as president and CEO effective Oct. 1. Smiddy will concurrently join ORI’s board and executive committee.

He succeeds CEO Aldo Zucaro, who will retire from that position after 25 years while remaining chairman of the company’s board. Additionally, R. Scott Rager, the current executive vice chairman, will retire on Oct. after 40 years with ORI.

The company’s board expressed confidence that the continuity of long-established governance and operating practices will lead to an orderly passage of executive responsibilities to Smiddy as the sixth CEO in ORI’s 95-year history.
