O’Hare Takes OAG’s Top Spot as Global Hub

A strong domestic aviation market propelled U.S. airports to dominate data platform OAG’s Megahubs 2022 ranking, with Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport (ORD) moving up from its third-place 2019 ranking to become the world’s most internationally connected airport. ORD also leads North American airports for the fifth consecutive time.

Following ORD globally are Dallas/Fort Worth, Atlanta, Seattle, Denver, Los Angeles, and New York John F. Kennedy. In total, 18 U.S. airports landed on the Top 50 with 13 taking the top 20 spots.

“With a total of 66 destinations served in August 2022 and ranking third in the world in terms of total capacity, O’Hare launched to #1 on the world stage,” said John Grant, chief analyst at OAG. “Given the combination of fewer international destinations and the strength of recovery in the U.S. domestic market, it’s not surprising that seven U.S. airports have taken the top global spots this year.”
