It’s Official: Marriott is the Largest Hotel Chain in the World

This week, Marriott closed its $13 billion dollar acquisition of Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide. Now, Marriott’s umbrella encompasses 30 hotel brands, including Starwood’s Sheraton, Westin, St. Regis and W hotels.

Across the globe, Marriott now spans over 5,700 properties in more than 110 countries. With 1.1 million rooms, Marriott has surpassed Hilton Worldwide’s 773,000 rooms.

If you’re wondering what happens to your rewards points…like the companies, they’ve become linked!  Also, each Starwood translates to three Marriott Rewards points.

As for the company headquarters, it will remain in Marriott’s Bethesda, MD location. Each company’s relative partnerships between airlines and banks have yet to change.
