It’s Official: Developer Sam Ware Owns Former Hospital

Dallas-area developer Sam Ware of Dreien Opportunity Partners LLC received final approval from Dallas County commissioners to buy the former 1.4-million-square-foot Parkland Memorial Hospital campus for $82 million. Ware plans to turn the 38-acre property on Harry Hines Boulevard in Dallas’ Medical District into The District, a mixed-use project with offices, shops, hotel rooms and apartments.

Though the commission voted in November 2018 to sell the property, Parkland officials wanted different terms that allowed Ware to pay $72 million up front, with the remaining $10 million to be paid in installments over a year. Under the new deal, the county would end up with 10% interest on the installments, which would add $1.3 million to the purchase price.

Parkland moved into its new facility, which is across the street from the old one, in 2016.
