Office Occupancy Climbs Above 50% for the First Time Since Pandemic Began

Office occupancy rates for the week ended Jan. 25 in the 10 metro areas tracked by Kastle Systems passed 50% for the first time since the pandemic began. The 10-city Back to Work Barometer rose nearly a point to 50.4% occupancy, reaching a new record high.

Nearly all tracked cities held steady or saw increases last week, with only Houston and Dallas dipping more than half a point. The metro with the greatest occupancy levels was another Texas city, Austin, at 67.7%.

San Jose, although still ranked lowest, experienced the biggest weekly jump of any city, rising nearly three points to 41.1% occupancy. All 10 cities on the Barometer have now reached occupancy rates above 40%, according to Kastle Systems.

The Falls Church, VA-based security solutions provider analyzes keycard, fob and KastlePresence app access data from the 2,600 buildings it secures across 47 states to identify return-to-office trends.
