Office/Industrial Project Would Keep Fish Processor in Brooklyn

ACME Smoked Fish Corporation, one of Brooklyn’s longest-operating manufacturers, is joining forces with Rubenstein Partners on a 583,000-square-foot commercial facility that would be built on the site of ACME’s current facility at 30 Gem St. The plan will need to traverse the city’s Uniform Land Use Review Procedure before construction can begin.

The family-owned smoked fish processing and packaging company—which had contemplated moving operations to North Carolina—would occupy 80,000 square feet of the new facility. The remainder would be given over to ancillary commercial space to support the growth of the city’s innovation-based sectors.

Rubenstein is developing a similar project a few blocks from the ACME site: 25 Kent Ave., the first new industrial and office building to be built in Williamsburg in decades. “ACME is the perfect anchor for the entrepreneur-driven, job-creating ecosystem that we envision,” said Jeff Fronek, VP and director of investments at Philadelphia-based Rubenstein.
