Oceanwide Center Rising in SoMa’s Transbay District
Ground has been broken on Oceanwide Center, San Francisco’s second tallest tower. A ceremonial event was held at the corner of First and Mission St.’s to commemorate the construction milestone for the more than $1.6-billion project.
The 2.1-million-square-foot, high-density development comprises two mixed-use towers – a Mission Street Tower with a 171-room Waldorf Astoria hotel and residences, and an office and residential tower along First St. The main skyscraper of the complex will rise 910 feet.
Expected to be completed by 2021, Oceanwide Center brings together places to live and work in the Transbay Terminal area. It also delivers a nearly five-story ‘urban room’ on the ground level for the region, as well as new pedestrian connections through the 1.25-acre site.
China Oceanwide Holdings is the project’s developer.

More than 200 gather for Oceanwide Center ground breaking, including developers, government officials, city leaders and project team members.
