Obamacare Sign Ups Outpace Last Year

The U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services issued a report that said more than one million Americans selected healthcare plans under the Affordable Care Act during the first two weeks of the enrollment period. This represents an uptick of 53,000 more plans being selected over the same period last year.

Sign-ups opened on November 1, and in the first 12 days of November, roughly 246,433 people chose a plan and 761,785 renewed existing plans. The deadline to enroll is on December 15, and reports will be released every two weeks until then that show the demand for the coverage, which will begin on January 1.

As Donald Trump prepares to take office in January, these numbers are important as he has promised to either repeal or amend the Affordable Care Act, which has been one of President Obama’s top priorities during his term.
