Oakland & The A’s Move Closer to New Ballpark Complex
With 3,500 pages of Environmental Impact Report and strong support from local labor interests, Oakland moved a significant step forward toward a new ballpark complex at Howard Terminal.
Oakland’s Planning Commission voted to recommend that City Council approve the EIR for a new home for the MLB’s Oakland Athletics. The council could vote as early as the end of February.
The proposal contains several key assets and amenities, as it also addresses the need for additional housing in Oakland:
- 35,000-seat waterfront ballpark
- 3,000 units of housing
- 1.5 million square feet of offices
- 270,000 square feet of retail space
- 3,500-person performance venue
- up to 400 hotel rooms
- 8,900 parking spaces in Oakland
Back in November 2021, Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf announced $14.5 million in federal grants for improvements in certain parts of Jack London Square and said the Port of Oakland secured about $260 million from the state budget for infrastructure upgrades, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
