Oakland Raiders Owner Pledges $500M for Las Vegas Stadium

The Oakland Raiders football team could be on the road again. But rather than returning to Los Angeles, where it competed during the 1982-1994 seasons, owner Mark Davis is eyeing Las Vegas for his team’s future home. To that end, Davis has pledged $500 million toward construction of a 65,000-seat, $1.4-billion, domed stadium.

The monetary pledge does not, however, give Davis carte blanche to move his team from its current location at O.co Coliseum in Oakland, where it has only a one-year lease. Davis’ offer is contingent on a public-private partnership that would include financing from tourist taxes. Additionally, Davis still has to convince the NFL to allow the move. The NFL already denied a Raiders’ bid to move the team back to Los Angeles.
