Oak Brook Board Nixes Multifamily Component of McDonald’s Campus Revamp

Plans to redevelop the former McDonald’s corporate campus in Oak Brook, IL suffered a setback when the Oak Brook Village Board unanimously rejected a planned residential component, the Chicago Tribune reported. JPD Oak Brook Holdings, which acquired the site from McDonald’s last year, is planning a mixed-use development on the site.

The majority of the property is zoned as an office, research and assembly District, the Tribune reported. The multifamily apartments and townhomes in JPD’s plan aren’t permitted under existing zoning.

Oak Brook Village President Gopal Lalmalani said during the online board meeting that the residential portion of the proposed development that would need special use approval isn’t something the village wants.

“I do not see any appetite for any residential component with this,” he said. “I have heard from several residents who don’t want to see residential there, and the board doesn’t have any appetite for it, either.”
