Oak Brook Approves Hines Plan for McDonald’s Plaza

Hines’ $500-million mixed-use development on the McDonald’s Plaza site has been unanimously approved by the Oak Brook Village Board, the Chicago Tribune reported. It will include the first multi-tenant office space built in Oak Brook since 2000.

Plans for Oak Brook Commons, a 17.5-acre site, include 250 rental apartments, 104 condominium units, a 252-room hotel, three restaurants, office space, retail stores and park space that is nearly 100 yards long and 25 yards wide.

Hines gave the Village Board a preliminary review of the project in January, and has been working to address concerns of village officials and staff, the Tribune reported. The two major issues were building the first apartments in a village dominated by single-family homes and providing adequate parking.

“Hines has been very responsive to our concerns,” Village Board member John Baar told the Tribune. The original proposal called for 500 apartments, a number since halved.
