NYC’s First Fisher Houses Open Near Bronx VA Hospital
New York City’s first Fisher House homes were dedicated recently by Fisher House Foundation chairman Ken Fisher, Veterans Affairs (VA) Secretary Robert Wilkie and James J. Peters VA Medical Center director Erik Langhoff.
The two Bronx facilities will provide temporary lodging at no cost for a total of 32 families of veterans or active-duty service members undergoing treatment at the Peters VA center, also in the Bronx.
“I want our veterans and their families to know when they walk in the door of a Fisher House that America cares and we thank them for their service and honor that service in a tangible way,” said Fisher.
Fisher is the third generation of Fisher Brothers leadership to chair the foundation established in 1991 by his great-uncle, Zachary Fisher. He also chairs the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum in New York, founded in 1978 by Zachary Fisher.
