NYC’s Evening Pedestrian Traffic Rises
Pedestrian traffic in downtown NYC surged by +2.3% in February compared to January, with a +1.5% year-over-year increase, largely driven by a remarkable +6.1% rise in evening activity, according to data from Real Estate Software. Weekend foot traffic soared by +5% year over year, surpassing the +1.5% growth seen on weekdays. However, the third week post-Super Bowl witnessed a slight decline of -4.4% year over year and -5.6% week over week.
Despite a lower-than-average month-over-month rise compared to historical trends, downtown activity remained resilient. Notably, Valentine’s Day provided a brief uplift, but overall momentum fluctuated during the week. Nevertheless, the final week saw a rebound of +5.4%, with Wednesdays emerging as the busiest day.
Annual pedestrian traffic levels stabilized, indicating a post-pandemic recovery phase. The significant annual rise in weekend foot traffic underscores promising prospects for NYC retail hubs.
