NYC Looks for Partners to Build Modular

New York City is getting serious about modular construction, which is the process of constructing buildings from modules that are built in a factory and stacked together at the building site.

Officials plans to release a Request for Proposals for a modular affordable housing development on one or more City-owned sites later this year.

To help identify potential partners and gather information about the process, the city released an official Request for Information as well as a Request for Expressions of Interest March 1, 2017.

“We’re harnessing the creativity of industry experts to find new ways to deliver affordable housing opportunities faster and more efficiently,” said Maria Torres-Springer, commissioner of the city’s Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD).

HPD will work with successful respondents to this RFEI to expedite the pre-development process, targeting mid-2019 closings.
