NYC Leads U.S. in Office Traffic Recovery

New York City cemented its position as the nationwide leader in office recovery in 2024, Placer.ai says in a new white paper. Due partly to remote work crackdowns by financial services giants, including Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley and JPMorgan, visits to NYC office buildings in 2024 were just 13.1% below pre-pandemic (2019) levels.

For comparison, Miami’s office foot traffic remained 16.2% below pre-pandemic levels. For all other major markets tracked by Placer.ai, the gaps in foot traffic were at least 25% below pre-pandemic levels and as high as 48.9%.

In the white paper, titled Blueprint for Recovery: Lessons From New York City’s Office Comeback, Placer.ai delves into the data to see how NYC office visitation patterns evolved in 2024 and what trends are shaping NYC work routines heading into 2025. It explores whether NYC workers are still concentrating their visits mid-week and whether commuting patterns have shifted since the pandemic.
