NYC Hotels Sign on to House Pandemic Patients, Healthcare Workers

More than 100 New York-area hotels have agreed to participate in a program to provide temporary lodging facilities for COVID-19 patients and first responders, the New York Business Journal reported Wednesday. The New York City Office of Emergency Management (OEM) recently signed a $250-million contract with Austin, TX-based CrewFacilities.com.

Under the agreement, CrewFacilities will oversee the program’s logistics chain. “We are honored to assist the City of New York with its fight against COVID-19,” said Andrea Tsakanikas, CrewFacilities president.

The rooms will be available for patients who have been discharged from the hospitals, people who show symptoms and need to quarantine, and healthcare workers, an OEM spokesman told the Business Journal.

He added that the city is working with the Hotel Association of New York City to identify hotels willing to participate. The hotels together have more than 9,000 rooms, and will work through CrewFacilities to provide the space.
