NYC Ferry On Course to Add New Route
The launch of NYC Ferry’s new route, connecting the Bronx with various points in Manhattan, is on course to begin this summer. City officials including Alicia Glen, the deputy mayor for housing and economic development, toured the construction site of the new Soundview landing Monday.
The Soundview route is expected to serve 400,000 riders a year travelling between the South Bronx and a new landing at East 90th Street, as well as existing landings at East 34th Street and Wall Street/Pier 11 in Manhattan. Riders on the new route will be able to make free connections at East 34th and Wall Street to the existing ferry lines.
Among the lines providing free connections will be the Lower East Side route, also beginning service this summer. It’s projected to serve nearly one million riders annually. Ridership on the ferry service’s four existing routes last year exceeded projections by about 34%, or 800,000.
