NYC Fast-Tracks 12 Community Districts for Affordable Housing Production

New York City Zohran Mamdani and the Department of City Planning on Thursday announced 12 community districts that will see affordable housing production fast-tracked beginning in January 2027. The 12 districts represent nearly one-fifth of the city’s 59 community districts but have produced just 1.1% of the city’s new affordable housing over the past five years.

The districts that will be subject to the voter-approved Affordable Housing Fast Track include the following: Brooklyn’s CD 10 (Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights), CD 12 (Borough Park, Kensington) and CD 18 (Canarsie, Flatlands); Manhattan’s CD 7 (Upper West Side) and CD 8 (Upper East Side, Roosevelt Island); Queens’ CD 4 (Corona, Elmhurst), CD 5 (Ridgewood, Maspeth, Middle Village), CD 10 (South Ozone Park, Howard Beach), CD 11 (Auburndale, Bayside, Douglaston) and CD 13 (Queens Village, Bellerose, Rosedale); and Staten Island’s CD 2 (Mid Island) and CD 3 (South Shore).

Over the past five years, the city’s highest-producing district created eight times as many affordable homes as all 12 Fast Track districts combined, according to Mamdani’s office. “New York’s housing crisis is not going to be solved by asking the same neighborhoods to do all the building,” said Mamdani.
