NYC Employers Lower Expectations for Return to the Office
Manhattan’s office-using employers have lowered their expectations for returning to the office, the Partnership for New York City (PFNYC) reported in announcing results of its latest survey. Only 15% of Manhattan office employees are expected to return by year’s end, down from August estimates of 26%.
In a follow-up to surveys that PFNYC conducted in June and August, employers say the total share of employees expected to return by July 2021 decreased from 54% in August to 48% last month. Twenty-seven percent of employers say they don’t know when employees will be back in the office.
Consistent with PFNYC’s August survey findings, the real estate industry has been the most aggressive in bringing employees back to the office, with 73% of employees having already returned. The sector also has a more bullish long-term expectation of office occupancy by its employees compared to the tech sector and finance and insurance employers.
