NYC Angles to Become Cybersecurity Hub

The city has lined up assistance from both academia and capital sources in a bid to establish New York as a hub for cybersecurity innovation and talent. From a real estate perspective, the two main components of Cyber NYC are a Chelsea-based Global Cyber Center, to be operated by Israel-based SOSA, and a 50,000-square-foot facility in SoHo that will serve as an international cybersecurity investment hub.

“New York City needs to be ambitious about cybersecurity because our future depends on it,” said James Patchett, president of the New York City Economic Development Corporation. “Cyber NYC will fuel the next generation of cybersecurity innovation and talent, leveraging one of the world’s greatest threats to create a major economic anchor and up to 10,000 quality middle-class jobs.”

On the academic front, NYCEDC has enlisted CUNY, NYU, Columbia, Cornell Tech and iQ4 to provide cybersecurity training through new certifications and degree programs.
