NYC a Leading Life Science City
New York City has become one the top cities in the country for research in medicine and the life sciences.
Life science organizations in the New York metropolitan area received $1.63 billion in funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in 2016. Only the Greater Boston area received more.
Biotech companies with locations in New York include industry giants Roche, Pfizer, and Eli Lilly. More than 1,000 other life sciences companies are located throughout the New York area, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Local officials have also launched LifeSciNYC, an $100 million initiative to create an applied life sciences campus.
