NY State Okays Mt. Sinai’s $1B Plan for Lower Manhattan Campus

The New York state Public Health and Health Planning Council has approved Mount Sinai’s $1 billion plan to build a new Beth Israel hospital and a behavioral health center in downtown Manhattan. Mount Sinai filed an application for the project last July and will now move forward on receiving public input.

The health system plans to build a replacement facility for Mount Sinai Beth Israel Hospital and a behavioral health center. It also plans to upgrade the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary.

Mt. Sinai earmarked $600 million of the investment to build the replacement hospital. The replacement facility, which will house 70 beds and an emergency room, will be two blocks from the current location.

The behavioral health center is expected to cost $140 million.

“This transformation will allow us to continue serving the needs of downtown community for decades to come,” Mt. Sinai said in a statement.
