Now Open: Austin Airport, Phase I
Austin-Bergstrom International Airport recently debuted the first phase of its $350 million project. The initial phase included a new terminal building and operation of north-facing gates for arrivals and departures. Construction is underway for the new terminal’s concessions and restaurants.
The expansion’s second phase, scheduled to be operational by the end of 2019, will focus on removing temporary jet bridges that will, in turn, allow for pavement improvements around the airport’s south gates. The goal is to ensure the gates are operational for arrivals and departures.
The expansion, which began in 2016, will add nine gates to the airport, bringing the total to 34. Officials are planning to add a separate terminal by 2030, which will add an additional 20 gates to the airport.
