Nouri/Shaver Buys Worthington Ford, Ending an Era

Nouri/Shaver Buys Worthington Ford, Ending an Era

You can no longer “Go See Cal” in Long Beach, CA, as the last Worthington Ford has been sold to Costa Mesa-based Nouri/Shaver Auto Group. Nick Worthington, the president of the company and Cal Worthington’s grandson, announced the sale earlier this week. Terms were not disclosed.

The acquisition brings the number of dealerships owned by Nouri/Shaver to 17, including Van Nuys, Chino Hills and Anaheim. The Orange County Register reports the deal is set to close at the end of the month and the dealership will be renamed BP Ford. All of the 130 employees at the location who wish to stay, will be retained.

Cal Worthington, who was featured prominently with his goofy commercials, had an auto empire that once numbered 30 dealerships from Reno to Sacramento to Houston. He died in 2013 and his grandson remembers him as one of the most charismatic people you’d ever meet.
