Northeastern University received approval from the Boston Planning and Development Agency board for a 23-story tower on Columbus Avenue, accommodating up to 1,370 students, Boston Business Journal reported.  

Additionally, The Druker Co. Ltd. gained approval for two connected lab-and-office buildings at 1033-1055 Washington St., totaling nearly 600,000 square feet. Other projects approved include The Flatley Co.’s mixed-use development on the Mystic River and The Fallon Co.’s Sullivan Square lab complex. Mayor Michelle Wu’s initiatives also saw success, with approvals for downtown office-to-housing conversions and zoning code changes.  

Housing advocates welcome Northeastern’s move to provide more student housing amid Boston’s housing challenges. The approved tower, partnering with American Campus Communities, aims to alleviate student housing demand, while Druker’s project aims to drive economic growth and sustainability.
