North Texas Hangs on to Top Construction Spot
Annual single-family home building starts in North Texas totaled 33,601 units in Q1 2018, according to data from Metrostudy Inc. Dallas-Fort Worth continues being the top construction spot in the nation; figures showed that the DFW starts increased almost 12% from the year before. In 2017, North Texas builders began more than 33,000 homes.
“Now that DFW developers and builders are delivering affordable lots and land, the momentum will continue,” Metrostudy’s Paige Shipp told the Dallas Morning News. She added that “affordable” these days consists of housing prices between $200,000-$300,000. The median new-home price in North Texas jumped approximately 40% in the past five years.
Even with the new starts, homebuilding in the area is still below what was experienced prior to the Great Recession.
