All-Night Foundation Work at The Crossing at Jamaica Station

Workers toiled through the night Friday Dec. 15, 2017 into the next morning to pour the foundation of The Crossing at Jamaica Station, a 30-story apartment tower soon to rise in the Jamaica neighborhood of Queens.

“Complicating the pour… it took place in a 24/7 busy urban environment—it is literally adjacent to an active parking garage, multiple retail stores, and between the LIRR and three MTA subway lines,” said Dennis Prude, executive vice president, field operations for CNY Group, construction managers for developers BRP Companies and Goldman Sachs.

Over 16 hours, workers poured about 2,500 cubic yards of concrete, delivered by 280 trucks from concrete plants in Queens.

The superblock development at 93-01 Sutphin Blvd. will include 539 apartments in the 30-story tower, 140 affordable apartments in a 14-story building next door, 25,000 square feet of retail space and parking for 176 cars. The buildings are designed by FXFOWLE Architects to achieve at least a LEED Silver certification. CNY is engaging MWBE trades which, in turn, will hire locally-based workers.
