NHL’s Penguins Reach New Agreement on Pittsburgh Redevelopment
The Pittsburgh Penguins reached a new agreement with the city and the Urban Redevelopment Authority of Pittsburgh on the long-delayed redevelopment of the former Civic Arena site.
Building on a previous Community Collaboration and Implementation Plan with the NHL franchise, the plan will provide for a mixed-use development and parking garage and longer-term guarantees for affordable housing. The project’s residential component is being handled by Intergen, a joint venture led by KBK Enterprises.
The new agreement’s provisions include the capitalization of the Greater Hill District Reinvestment Fund, business incubation space and a Partner4Work center at the Civic Arena redevelopment, the Pittsburgh Business Journal reported.
The Penguins also will build an EMS station inside the new parking garage to allow it to move from its current location; redevelop a computer lab, basketball court and playground at Ammon Rec Center; and finish the Curtain Call legacy project.
