Next Steps for Texarkana’s Comprehensive Plan
Approximately 150 people turned out Nov. 15 for the second of three public meetings concerning the city of Texarkana, TX’s Comprehensive Plan. City consultant Halff Associates presented three alternate city-wide scenarios, based on input already received from the first public meeting and “Dine on the Line” citizen input.
The Family/Linkages scenario focuses on additional public parks, smaller regional centers to cut down on driving, and extensive pedestrian trails. The Educational Career Nodes scenario focuses on creating centers for increased education and business activities, while boosting health care on existing facilities. The Economic Development scenario pinpoints retail development and light industry for increased area growth.
City planner Daphnea Ryan told Connect Media that attendees weighed in by “dot” voting (placing glued dots on the most appealing option) and interaction with the steering committee and staff. She added that the city and Halff will take the input and draft a full plan, which will be presented to the public at a spring 2017 meeting.
