Next Generation Honoree: Sergi Creates “Incubator” Portfolio at Clear Height

Dominic Sergi is the founder, president and CEO of Clear Height Properties, a company he launched in 2010 to bring synergy and a common strategy to property acquisitions, after disposing of a family-owned portfolio that lacked cohesiveness. Since 2010, he has led his team to acquiring and developing over $200 million in assets with the participation of outside investors. Sergi also oversees all aspects of the company’s integrated platform of management, leasing and construction. In the process, Clear Height has grown to 12 employees, and continues to grow and expand.

Those are just some of the reasons we chose Sergi to be one of the Chicago 2018 Next Generation Award winners. Connect Media’s second annual Next Generation Awards recognize young leaders in the commercial real estate industry who are likely to be influential for years to come.

At the outset, Sergi established Clear Height’s acquisition theme: primarily multi-tenant office and industrial properties aimed at the middle market of small- and mid-size users. These buildings weren’t the most highly sought-after properties; in fact, people questioned the rationale for assembling such a portfolio.

But Sergi recognized that these buildings, in part, serve as incubators for companies to grow and expand—until they need larger facilities. In hindsight, it was a fortuitous acquisition philosophy, one that has helped to distinguish the company.
